Juan Carlos, UC Merced, Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology

My college experience was a mix of challenges and positive experiences, which included meeting new people, connecting with my peers, and learning that I was not alone on my journey.

As a Sociology major, I am proud to share that I have accomplished my goal of getting into a Master’s program, specifically the Master of Social Work program at Palo Alto University. My hope is to be able to graduate with my MA and help out my neighborhood. I believe we should always go back to our communities and never forget where you come from because it is what makes us who we are. 

Being a first-generation student is not easy, and this scholarship made it possible for me to get through college, and has motivated me to keep pushing through and work harder for things in life..
