From EPAA to Cal State Fullerton

Following in his sisters’ footsteps, Ab chose to attend EPAA because it was close to home and offered a welcoming, close-knit environment. That small-school setting made it easy to build relationships with staff and peers—connections that have been important in his growth.

Ab, EPAA Class of 2025, is now navigating his freshman year at Cal State Fullerton, where he is studying kinesiology. As the youngest of the three Pacheco-Alvarez Bulldogs, Ab is building on the strong foundation created by his older siblings and the support and guidance from EPAA, which has instilled confidence and a sense of community that shaped his high school experience.

Support from EPAA and EPAAF staff made a huge impact. Senior Seminar supported Ab through the college application process and there was always someone available to talk through academic questions and concerns. That steady guidance from specialized staff helped Ab feel prepared and supported as he transitioned to college.

Beyond the classroom, extracurricular involvement shaped his leadership and confidence. Ab participated in student council, the recruitment team, and the Health Career Collaborative (HCC). He especially valued EPAA’s athletics program.

“The coaches are so supportive and build up your confidence, even if you’ve never played the sport before!”

One of Ab’s most transformative experiences came through the Dream Volunteers Program, where he traveled to Guatemala for ten days to help build and repair a school. The trip gave him a powerful new perspective on community, gratitude, and service—values he carries with him today.

Now in college, Ab is learning to balance independence with new responsibilities, and he is taking with him the value of community that was instilled in him at EPAA, and prioritizing connection and involvement at Fullerton.
